CUSH Magazine is a bi-monthly, regional magazine created in June 2004 by Tracie Y. Payne. When Tracie spoke with members of the community, she found herself focusing on their perception of one of the missing links for people of color. A consistent, positive and regular image in the fourth estate – the media – was missing. With lots of support and encouragement from her husband, James E. Payne, Tracie began to research the concept of a quality magazine that would reach out to and represent the upscale market of people of color.
The purpose of CUSH Magazine™ is to educate African Americans about issues and interests that impact them. CUSH Magazine™ focuses on community and social events and their influence on the lives of its target readership. CUSH Magazine™ is committed to filling the void in the Southeast Texas communications industry, a void where minorities are often ignored or denied the opportunity of positive portrayals of its people.
CUSH Magazine is the highest quality magazine published in Southeast Texas. Our target demographic is 24- to 55-year-old upper income households of people of color. Although the publication is free and available to the general public, hundreds of subscriptions for home delivery are being mailed to our supportive readership. Ten thousand issues of CUSH are printed bi-monthly and are being read by over 40,000 people. This popular publication is available in most churches, doctor’s offices, beauty and barber shops, restaurants and independent businesses in the Southeast Texas area.
